Investigate our PhD opportunities and identify a supervisor

Prior to applying, you should thoroughly research prospective programme and select one that best suits your research interests and career goal.

Then, please consult the academic staff profiles listed on the relevant department or school’s website and contact a potential supervisor whose research interest aligns with yours.

Check entry requirements

Acedemicrequirements

If you apply for a postgraduate research programme, you will generally need to hold at least a UK honours bachelor degree at the second class upper division (2:1), and/or a master degree at merit level or above in arelevant subject from a British university.

For applicants with a degree from the USA, the minimum GPA sought is 3.0 out of 4.0.

For applicants with a degree from China, the minimum weighted average score is 80 out 100.

Applicants with other international qualifications should meet the equivalent of the above UK minimum entry requirement.

*Please note that admission to UNNC is very competitive and that meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place.

Englishrequirements

Students whose first language is not English or their entry qualifications were not obtained from a country/region where English is the native language, are required to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English.

Research programmes usually recruit postgraduate students at multiple points throughout the year. Please check the entry and closing dates for the programme you are applying for.

Scholarship availability

We offer a wide variety of scholarships to potential PhD candidates seeking to study with us. Our scholarships include faculty scholarships, strategic scholarships and DTP scholarships.

No separate application is required for applying for a scholarship but please make sure you select the correct scholarship reference number in the PhD application system.

We strongly advise that you submit your application along with all supporting documentsat least a week before the deadline of your chosen scholarship. Do not wait until the day of the deadline! During our busiest application seasons, we may not be able to reply to your enquiries or help you to resolve any problems in time.

Applications will be considered together after each scholarship deadline has passed, and decisions are expected to be made within the different admission cycles as shown below:

Research proposal

Your application will usually include a research proposal explaining your research plans. This will help us to assess the quality of your application and, if you have not already done so, identify academics who could supervise your research.

It’s essential that you have made contact with a UNNC supervisor who has agreed to supervise your research project and support your application for a scholarship before submitting your application.
