主讲人简介：江科元系美国普渡大学Calumet校区计算机信息技术系教授，IEEE计算机协会会员，IEEE生物医学工程协会高级会员，积极参与信息技术在生物医学领域的应用。他的科研成果发表在Bioinformatics，IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Computer Science Lecture Notes, Computers in Biology and Medicine, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine等刊物上，科研项目曾获微软研究院的资助。
报告摘要：As social media becomes a common communication platform for users to share their experiences and discuss various topics. It is conceivable that social media users are likely to share experiences with medications. We have developed, using a number of computational and natural language processing techniques, a processing pipeline of extracting drug effects from the dataset of Twitter, a popular microblogging social media site. Our method involves classifying personal experience posts using machine learning classifiers and identifying drug effects using the MetaMap software. Our results showed decent correlations between the reported effects and those discovered by our method, demonstrating that social media may serve as a viable platform for early detection of drug effects.
